Facility of the Month: Lighthouse Nursing Care Center
Located in a quiet residential neighborhood in Revere, Massachusetts, the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center has been serving community residents since 1986. Under the guidance of the administrator, Roger Marks, the center offers private and semi-private rooms, creating a cozy setting and a family-like atmosphere for its 123 residents.
Marks is particularly proud of Lighthouse's recent third-place ranking among the 456 skilled nursing facilities inspected by the state. He credits an attentive and caring staff, and, because Lighthouse is not part of a large national chain, he believes he has the flexibility to make decisions to meet the unique needs of Lighthouse's residents and their families.
Understandably, given its location in a very ethnic neighborhood, there is a high percentage of residents of Italian heritage at Lighthouse. In fact, Marks says, about half the center's residents were born in Italy and emigrated to this country. As a result, the dining room menu has a distinctly Italian flavor!
In addition to long-term residency, the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center also has a short-term rehabilitation unit for stays of 2-3 weeks, and a specialized dementia care unit. The center is also licensed to provide hospice care.
"We are not perfect because we are helping human beings," says Roger Marks. But the Lighthouse Center certainly earns top grades for warmth and caring.
