Attorney Neal Winston Elected President Elect of Special Needs Alliance
(SOMERVILLE, Mass.) – Attorney Neal A. Winston, Partner of the Somerville, Massachusetts law firm Moschella and Winston, LLP, has been elected President Elect of the Special Needs Alliance (SNA), the organization announced. He succeeds President Elect Bridget O’Brien Swartz, the Arizona attorney now serving as President of the SNA. Winston’s presidency will begin in October 2010. He previously served as Vice President of the SNA.
Established in 2002, the Special Needs Alliance (SNA) is a national, non-profit collective of many of America’s leading disability and public benefits attorneys. Currently in 48 states, SNA members work to secure Medicaid and other public benefits for individuals with special needs. The SNA’s mission is to help enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities by coordinating private resources with public benefit programs through special needs planning and trusts.
Membership to SNA is selective and competitive and extended by invitation only. Attorneys must meet specific criteria to ensure that SNA clients are served with the utmost professionalism and compassion. Criteria include a minimum number of years of practice in the special needs area and proven involvement with disability advocacy organizations.
Mr. Winston’s law firm specializes in legal planning and protection for individuals and families, with an emphasis on elder, disability, special needs, and public benefit eligibility issues. He has been a leading authority on government benefit programs, especially SSI and Social Security, for over 30 years and has lectured, trained, and written widely on benefit programs. Additionally, he has represented hundreds of claimants before state and federal agencies and is active in legislative issues affecting disabled and elder citizens on a state and federal level.
Mr. Winston is a past president of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and a Certified Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation. He also is a graduate of Utica College of Syracuse University and received his J.D. at Suffolk University Law School.
